Homeopathy - an alternative therapy

The term homeopathy originates from the Greek words hómoios (similar) and páthos (suffering) and is a medical philosophy and practice based on the idea that the body has the ability to heal itself. The number of people in the United States that have been using the various forms of alternative medicine or CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) has been increasing.

Homeopathy can be used orally or by injection for patients that suffer from pain or other problems. Homeopathic doctors often see patients with long-term, chronic problems, many of which have failed to respond to conventional medicine, such as eczema, chronic fatigue syndrome, asthma, arthritis and other conditions.

Most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid do not provide much coverage, if any, for Homeopathy and these types of alternative care treatments. Some progress has been made in recent years and many health insurance plans have begun providing varying degrees of coverage for alternative therapies like chiropractic and acupuncture treatments but have limits has to how many treatments and how much coverage will be provided.
