Gum Disease and Symptoms
Periodontal disease (gum disease) can start out mild (Gingivitis) and then lease to serious (Periodontitis) if not treated. These are serious infections that can actually lead to tooth loss if not treated. Most often Gingivitis is caused by poor oral hygiene or simply put, bad habits!
For the most part, the symptoms of Gingivitis include red and swollen gums and a tendency to bleed. Once Gingivitis is left untreated it can then eventually lead to Periodontitis. This can then lead to serious infections, destruction of gum tissue and bone and eventually a loosening of teeth and or tooth loss.
How do you know if this is a problem? Usually you can tell by noticing your gums have become red, swollen and tend to bleed easily! This should be the first red flag to start maintaining good oral care and see your dentist. Time to start brushing and flossing after every meal!
It is unfortunate that not everyone responds to the early symptoms of gum
disease as they should and often times this leads to Periodontitis. This is not
to be taken lightly and a visit to the dentist is a must. The longer you wait
the more damage this disease can do. Notice bleeding gums? Time to visit the dentist!
